The Purpose of Reiki

Reiki is a simple transfer of ‘Universal Life Force’; an energy which flows all around and through our bodies.

For the body to function correctly and to experience good health, wellbeing, strength, vitality and harmony, this energy needs to be kept in a state of balance.

The purpose or intention of Reiki is to stimulate and assist the natural healing process of our body and mind.

Reiki is complementary to western medicine; therefore, it does not interfere in any way with conventional medical treatments and patients should continue to consult their doctors.

The Benefits of Reiki

Mental health issues and stress-related illnesses result from a wide range of factors; high pressured jobs, working long hours, unemployment, financial problems – and more recently, the Covid-19 global pandemic,

Today’s lifestyles bring many family and relationship problems for people of all ages. Bereavement and depression may often render a person into a feeling of total isolation.

Quality time spent performing a Reiki treatment can assist with many illnesses and conditions, bringing about a gradual strengthening of the will and self-determination.

The rebalancing and renewing of the energies will relieve emotional and mental stress, promote calmness, relaxation and peace, release tension and aid concentration.

What is Reiki?

The form of Reiki which we practice today was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui; a Japanese scholar and Christian Minister, who in addition studied medicine and psychology.

Dr. Usui opened his first Reiki clinic in Kyoto, Japan in 1922, where he worked with his disciple Dr. Chujiro Hiyashi, who became his clinic manager and successor.

Dr. Hiyashi was responsible for spreading Reiki worldwide by curing an illnesses for a Japanese American woman named Hawayo Takata living in Hawaii. She then moved to Japan, working as an intern for a year at the clinic.

Hawayo Takata became the Grand Master of Usui Reiki after Hiyashi’s death, taking Reiki to Hawaii in 1938, and by her death (in 1980) had taught 22 Masters across the USA and other countries worldwide.

There are several Reiki systems. However, they all amount to the same life principles; to bring into harmony the mind, body and spirit of the patient and are not limited to affecting only the physical improvement.

Perfect health is not just the absence of disease, but the lively state of balance incorporating the mind, body, and soul.

Reiki Treatments

Reiki is given by the laying-on of hands, to channel the flow of energies to where it is required. The treatment is given whilst the person is lying comfortably and fully clothed, except in the case of a disabled person whereby it would be performed where it is most comfortable and appropriate.

It is essential that Reiki is carried out by a highly qualified Reiki Master. The treatment time may range from 20 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the client’s preference.
